Welcome! *

My name is Joi Haynes, LCSW (she, her). I am the owner, and sole practitioner of Reframing Therapy PLLC. I specialize in helping individuals manage anxiety, depression, complex trauma, burnout, and imposter syndrome, particularly focusing on fostering intentional living for women of color, individuals who are neuro-spicy and members of the LGBTQ+ community. We are also sex-positive, body-positive and gender affirming in these parts. We reframe and vacate shame.

When I’m not supporting others, I enjoy painting as a means of expression, reading historical fictions, and helping my niece learn to have soft hands with my cats. I also enjoy watching documentaries or informational YouTube videos. My favorite drink right now is hot tea, mainly herbal.

I’d love to work with you! Let’s chat! Reach out and receive a free consultation to complete a quick vibe-check.

“If I am not good to myself, how can I expect anyone else to be good to me?” — Maya Angelou

My Approach

While in session, we listen and we don’t judge. With five years of experience working alongside both neurodivergent and neurotypical adolescents and adults, I bring a holistic approach to therapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My focus is on person-centered interventions and diverse modalities that resonate with you. During our time together, we’ll explore the "why" behind your feelings, challenge unhelpful patterns, and encourage practices like cognitive reframing and value-based decision-making. Remember, you are the expert in your own life; my role is to walk alongside you, offering support and posing the important questions through motivational interviewing. Ideally you will operate in a way that is authentic to you and your needs while sustaining important relationships with self and others. Integrating any parts of yourself that have kept you from feeling whole. I am also very much on laughter and speaking authentically.

At Reframing Therapy, I believe that you are the author, editor and publisher of your own story. Using a blend of Relational Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and holistic approaches you are provided a personalized space to help you explore and transform your inner world. I am also a huge advocate of expressive arts as a means to heal your inner child. So you might be encouraged to create as a means to ground, however that might look for you.

Whether you are seeking to understand your relationships, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, integrate different parts of yourself, or heal from past wounds, our integrative methods empower you to embrace your full potential.

Referenced and additional forms of therapy I utilize:

  • Relational Therapy: Cultivating meaningful connections and understanding how relationships impact your emotional well-being.

  • Narrative Therapy: Rewriting your story to reclaim your sense of agency and purpose.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Identifying and healing the different parts of yourself to create harmony and self-compassion.

  • DBT: Developing practical skills for emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • CBT: Challenging and reframing negative thought patterns that affect your mental health.

  • Holistic Healing: Addressing the mind, body, and spirit for a well-rounded, integrated approach to therapy.

Together, we'll explore new perspectives, build resilience, and move toward lasting transformation.

My Why

I love seeing black women living in their truth unapologetically. I love seeing the oppressed revel in the audacity to be seen. I’m for sore thumbs, and mistakes, and venues of expression. I’m for silence in reverence and in resonance. And, I have been able to find these things in all areas of therapy; specifically in social work. There is a magic that takes place in therapeutic relationships.

I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University of Chicago. It was in my role as within Chicago Public Schools that I was exposed to learning through different modalities and with different abilities. This has led to an individualized approach in all of my interventions as I loved help others to associate the want for learning with the lessons in making mistakes and adjusting, or reframing.

I often pull from the teaching of Carl Jung, Thich Nhat Hanh and Bell Hooks when expressing my ideology on living wholly as they have led others to do. And through their works, I realize the incredible privilege I have as a clinician and the obligation I have to my community to ensure that they are able to advocate for themselves in all settings - including clinical, professional and social- as is their right. Specially as a Black Woman, my passion for supporting women- much like the strong women in my own life- stems in the experience of having lived through trials and seen the other side of it. It really takes a supportive community, wherever you can find it; you can start here.
