Welcome! *
My name is Joi Haynes, LCSW (she, her). I specialize in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, complex trauma, burnout, and imposter syndrome. My work focuses on fostering intentional living for people of color, neurodivergent individuals, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those exploring their identities. I also work with students and teens. Here you can show up as you are without judgement and with empathy and care. Your story is yours to tell, and rewrite as you see fit; we reframe and vacate shame.
When I’m not supporting others, I enjoy painting as a form of expression, reading historical fiction, and helping my niece learn to have soft hands with my cats. I also love watching documentaries and informational YouTube videos. My go-to drink right now is hot tea—mainly herbal.
I’d love to work with you! Let’s chat—reach out for a free consultation and a quick vibe check.
“If I am not good to myself, how can I expect anyone else to be good to me?” — Maya Angelou
My Approach
While in session, we listen and we don’t judge. With five years of experience working with both neurodivergent and neurotypical teens and adults, I bring a well-rounded approach to therapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My goal is to focus on you—using different types of therapy that fit your needs. In our sessions, we’ll explore why you feel the way you do, challenge unhelpful habits, and try new ways of thinking, like cognitive reframing and value-based decision-making. You are the expert in your own life—I’m here to support you, ask important questions, and guide you through motivational interviewing. The goal is for you to be true to yourself and bring together all the parts of who you are. Also, I believe in the power of laughter and speaking honestly.
At Reframing Therapy, I see you as the author, editor, and publisher of your own story. Using different types of therapy, including Relational Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and holistic approaches, I create a space where you can explore and grow. I also believe in using expressive arts to heal your inner child, so you might be encouraged to create as a way to express yourself—whatever that looks like for you.
Whether you want to understand your relationships, change unhelpful thought patterns, bring together different parts of yourself, or heal from past experiences, my approach helps you move toward your full potential.
Types of Therapy I Use:
Relational Therapy: Helping you build strong, healthy connections with others.
Narrative Therapy: Changing the way you see your life story so you feel more in control.
Internal Family Systems (IFS): Understanding and healing different parts of yourself.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): Learning skills to handle emotions, stay mindful, and improve relationships.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): Changing negative thought patterns to improve mental health.
Holistic Healing: Focusing on your mind, body, and spirit for overall well-being.
Together, we’ll explore new ways of thinking, build resilience, and create lasting change.

My Why
I love seeing people live their truth without apology. I love seeing those who have been pushed down find the courage to take up space and be seen. I support people who stand out, make mistakes, and find ways to express themselves. I believe in the power of both loud voices and quiet moments. I’ve found all of this in therapy—especially in social work. There’s something special about the connections built in therapy.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. While working in Chicago Public Schools, I learned how people learn in different ways and with different abilities. This helped me shape my approach to therapy, where I help others see that learning—even from mistakes—is part of growing and reframing their experiences.
I often draw inspiration from Carl Jung, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Bell Hooks because they have helped so many people live as their full selves. Their work reminds me of the privilege I have as a therapist and my responsibility to my community. I want to help people advocate for themselves in all areas of life—whether in therapy, at work, or in society—because that is their right.
As a Black woman, I’m especially passionate about supporting other women, just like the strong women who have shaped my life. I know what it’s like to go through struggles and come out on the other side. Having a supportive community makes all the difference, and if you’re looking for one, you can start here.
