Welcome!
Welcome!
My name is Joi Haynes, LCSW (she, her). I specialize in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, complex trauma, burnout, and imposter syndrome. My work focuses on fostering intentional living for people of color, neurodivergent individuals, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those exploring their identities. I also work with students and teens. Here you can show up as you are without judgement and with empathy and care. Your story is yours to tell, and rewrite as you see fit; we reframe and vacate shame.
When I’m not supporting others, I enjoy painting as a form of expression, reading historical fiction, and helping my niece learn to have soft hands with my cats. I also love watching documentaries and informational YouTube videos. My go-to drink right now is hot tea—mainly herbal.
I’d love to work with you! Let’s chat—reach out for a free consultation and a quick vibe check.

About Me
I opened Reframing Therapy because I believe everyone deserves a place where they can be seen fully—without judgment, without having to shrink, and without pretending to be okay when they’re not.
Therapy has a way of helping us see ourselves clearly. It teaches us that even the parts of us we hide or shame are worthy of compassion and understanding. I’ve felt that firsthand. I’ve watched therapy help people find their voices, take up space, and live their truth—without apology.
As a Black woman, I’m especially passionate about supporting other women, just like the strong women who have shaped me. I know what it’s like to struggle and come out on the other side. I also know the difference it makes to have a supportive community—and if you’re looking for one, you can start here.
My Approach
In our sessions, we listen—and we don’t judge. You are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk with you, ask important questions, and support you as you explore who you are and what you need.
Together, we’ll explore why you feel the way you do, challenge unhelpful patterns, and try new ways of thinking and being. We’ll use tools like cognitive reframing, value-based decision-making, and motivational interviewing to help you grow into your full self.
I also believe in the power of laughter and speaking honestly. Therapy doesn’t have to be cold or clinical—it can be a warm, human experience that meets you where you are.
My Background
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. My time working in Chicago Public Schools taught me how people learn in different ways, with different needs, and at different paces—lessons that deeply inform my therapy practice today.
I draw inspiration from Carl Jung, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Bell Hooks, whose work reminds me of the privilege and responsibility I carry as a therapist. It is your right to advocate for yourself in therapy, at work, and in your community—and I am here to support you in doing so.
